Sept 29, 2016: New World News - Amazon Games' New World is a 17th Century Paranormal MMO

One game we saw briefly during the Twitch Unboxing event for Amazon Game Studios was New World - a fantastic looking take on the 17th Century North America where the supernatural is real and players work together and against each other to settle the wilderness.

We only saw it wee bit in the opening video, but it definitely caught our attention, as it could be the most MMORPG style product of the three shown. We're chasing down more as fast as we can.

From the official Amazon Games site:

Carve your own destiny in New World, a massively multiplayer, open-ended sandbox game set in a living, cursed land. Choose how you play, what you do, and whom you work with or against in an evolving world that transforms with the seasons, weather, and time of day. Band together to reclaim monster-haunted wilds and build thriving civilizations, or strike out on your own, surviving in the face of supernatural terrors and murderous player bandits. Focused on emergent gameplay and rich social features – including deep Twitch integration with broadcaster-led events, achievements, and rewards – your only limit in the New World is your ambition.

Releasing May 2020.

MMORPG.com - Dec 12, 2019: Amazon's New World Brings Players To The Age Of Exploration

New World, Amazon’s new MMO, was officially unveiled today during The Game Awards, and a first look at the upcoming project from the studio looks initially promising. Set in the twilight of the Age of Exploration during the 17th Century in an alternate history from our own, players will inhabit and explore the island of Aeternum, also known as the Eternal Isle, in search of treasure and more.

The upcoming game is being billed as an open-world MMO, complete with player-run settlements, Companies (which are New World’s guilds), skill-based combat, and classless character progression. It sounds ambitious, and it should be as the team behind the game boasts talent who previously worked on games such as World of Warcraft, Destiny and EverQuest.

MMORPG.com - July 10, 2020: Amazon's MMO New World Delayed, Again, Now Coming Spring 2021
Limited Beta Test Happening On August 25th

In a post today via Twitter, New World Studio Director Rich Lawrence announced that the upcoming MMO from Amazon Game Studios will be delayed, again, until Spring 2021.

Lawrence mentioned that the move allows for more time to make sure the experience they give to players allows them to be "fully immersed" in the experience, as well as to make sure that dedicated players have plenty of content to work through.
